COPAY's CEO, Maria Elisa Cuadra, was the speaker at an event hosted by the Great Neck Chinese Association that was held at Great Neck House on Wednesday, September 28th.  The topic was: 
"How Parents Can Prevent Substance Abuse and Protect Their Children".
 
The workshop was well received and parents asked many interesting, important, and  thought provoking questions.  
 
Covered during the presentation was: 
  • Culture as a factor in parenting.
  • When is it appropriate to talk to young children about drugs and alcohol and how does a parent begin.
  • Families as the primary role models of children.
  • The middle school and high school years and how to navigate them successfully.
  • Importance of on-going communication. 
  • Stress and our teenagers; how to encourage healthy coping and balanced living.
  • Keeping prescription medications away from children and teens. 
  • Importance of supervision during after school hours and at parties and social gatherings. 
  • Protecting teens from all drugs, including alcohol.
  • The growing public concerns regarding heroin. 
  • When to seek  consultation and help from professionals.
  • Healthy outlets that kids can be involved in.
  • An overview of COPAY's Prevention and Intervention Services
