COPAY's CEO, Maria Elisa Cuadra, was the speaker at an event hosted by the Great Neck Chinese Association that was held at Great Neck House on Wednesday, September 28th. The topic was:
"How Parents Can Prevent Substance Abuse and Protect Their Children".
The workshop was well received and parents asked many interesting, important, and thought provoking questions.

毒品和酒精濫用是美国一个严重的社会问题，近几年在大颈地区也越来越严重。去年以来大颈地区已有四起因海洛因过量而死亡的事件。很多青少年从中学就开始接触并尝试毒品。为了帮助大颈华人社区更好地了解毒品和酒精问题的严重性，以及出现问题时如何利用社区内各项资源，大颈华人协会将于九月二十八号晚七时半在 Great Neck House 举办一次关于毒品和酒精濫用问题的讲座。
本次讲座的主讲人为 COPAY （Community Organization for Parent And Youth） 的 CEO， Maria Elisa Cuadra 女士。COPAY 是大颈地区著名的非营利组织，在处理毒品和酒精濫用问题方面有丰富经验。 本次讲座包括以下话题，详情请看附件。本次讲座完全免费，语言为英文。
· 当前儿童/青少年毒品和酒精濫用问题
· 毒品和酒精上瘾对家庭和青少年精神健康的影响
· 父母亲在这些问题上如何做好表率
· 青少年长期压力问题
· 父母应该注意的征兆 ，以及何时应该介入
· 何种服务可以帮助处理濫用问题及如何得到这些服务

GNCA To Host Seminar on Substance Abuse
Substance abuse (including narcotics and alcohol) is a serious social problem in America and increasingly becoming an issue in Great Neck. There have been four heroine related deaths in Great Neck since last year. Middle school is the age for many teenagers to begin experimentation with substances. To help the Chinese community in Great Neck to understand the issue and get information about the resources in the community in dealing with substance abuse, GNCA will host a seminar on substance abuse on September 28 at 7:30 PM in Great Neck House. The speaker of the seminar will be Ms. Maria Elisa Cuadra, CEO of COPAY (Community Organization for Parent And Youth). COPAY, a famous non-profit organization in Great Neck, is very experienced in dealing with substance abuse. Please see the flyer below for more details about the topics of the seminar. The seminar will be completely free and conducted in English.
大颈华人协会将在中秋佳节之际为社区居民献上“家好月圆庆中秋”的免费活动。活动定于周日9月18号下午3点至5点在大颈公园区俱乐部举行。这次活动将面对整个大颈社区，旨在让海外的华人子女和非华裔更多的了解中秋文化传统。活动内容包括脍炙人口的民间故事，月饼品尝，中秋灯笼制作，折纸剪纸等。此外我们还特意邀请了Chinese Theatre Works为大家带来独具特色的传统皮影戏 "Tiger Tales"。位置有限，请大家不要错过机会！

Join the Great Neck Chinese Association for a fun-filled afternoon of activities celebrating the Mid Autumn Festival at Great Neck House on Sunday September 18th from 3pm to 5pm. FREE activities include award winning shadow puppet show “Tiger Tales" by Chinese Theatre Works, learning about Mid Autumn Festival history and traditions, retelling of timeless Chinese legends, tasting of authentic Moon Cakes, and making origami and Chinese paper lanterns.
